Horse Accessories back to previous page

  • Bridle – used to guide the horse. Some bridles have ‘bits’ which fit into the horse’s mouth. The rider uses the reins to let the horse know which way to go and when to stop.
  • Saddle – makes a comfortable seat for the rider. You put your feet in the stirrups to help you keep your balance.
  • Blanket – goes under the saddle to protect the horse’s back.
  • Halter – used to bring the horse in from, and out to, the corral. The lead rope attaches to it with a clip.
  • Lead Rope – used to tie up the horse. Also can be tied around the saddle horn to stop the horse from grazing while you ride. When it is tied like this we call it an "eat me not" knot.
  • Curry Comb – used to loosen the dead skin, hair and dirt from the horse’s coat.
  • Brush – used after the curry comb to sweep away the loosened hair and dirt.
  • Hoofpick – used to get stones and packed in mud from out of the horse’s hoofs.
